Alan McConnell is a food industry technical specialist with the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP). He provides technical assistance to small and midsize food-processing firms across Pennsylvania, in all product sectors. He assists these businesses by providing hands-on technical assistance, information, and referrals to other resources and programs.

Alan has more than fifteen years of experience in serving the food-processing industry as a consultant, laboratory director, and quality control manager. His specialties include food chemistry, food microbiology, quality control, sanitation, food safety, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system development and evaluation, and product and process improvement-including waste minimization and beneficial use of food processing wastes.

Prior to joining PennTAP, Alan served as director of food science services for American Westech, Inc. He holds a bachelor's degree in plant science and a master's degree in food science, both from Penn State.
